Tally on mobile: the full TallyPrime on your phone or tablet

Your licensed TallyPrime runs on a private Windows server in India. Open it on your phone to check a party's outstanding before a meeting, correct a voucher on the way to a client or e-mail an invoice from the godown, then pick up an iPad with a keyboard for real data entry. Same books, same shortcuts, live everywhere.

  • Microsoft's Windows App is free
  • iOS/iPadOS 26+ and Android 11+
  • Use your existing TallyPrime licence
  • Starting from ₹799/month
Quick answer

Yes, you can use Tally on mobile. TallyPrime installs only on Windows, so it runs on a private Windows cloud server and you open it on an Android phone, iPhone or iPad with Microsoft's free Windows App. You get the full program, with every voucher, report and GST screen, not a view-only reports app.

No official app runs TallyPrime itself on a phone. Our Tally mobile app guide explains what Tally Solutions does publish in the app stores.

Full TallyPrime vs reports-only

Six Tally options people try on a phone, and what each one really does

Search for "tally on mobile" and you'll find apps, browser reports and cloud services that sound alike. They are not. Only some let you create or alter a voucher, and only a Windows Remote Desktop server gives you the whole of TallyPrime on an iPhone, iPad or Android device.

Why "full TallyPrime" matters

A companion app shows a phone-friendly copy of selected data. Remote Desktop shows the real program running on the server, so your TDL customisations, cost centres, GST returns, e-invoicing and Connected Banking (with an active TSS) are all there. Nothing has to sync, because there is only one copy of your books.

The honest trade-off

TallyPrime was designed for a keyboard and a large screen, so on a 6-inch phone you will zoom and scroll. That's fine for a ledger lookup or a quick correction, but tiring for fifty purchase bills. A sensible split is the phone for checks and an iPad or laptop for entry. See all five Tally remote access options for the desktop side.

Which phones and tablets work

Pick your device. See exactly what works.

Every device connects with the same free Microsoft app, now called Windows App (formerly Microsoft Remote Desktop). What changes is the minimum OS version and which extras, like keyboards, mice and file saving, come along.

iOS 26.0 or laterWindows App Mobile · free

iPhone: your books in your pocket

Install Windows App Mobile from the App Store, add your server and TallyPrime opens full screen. Turn the phone sideways for a wider view and pinch to zoom on a report.

What works

  • Every report and voucher type
  • Touch, pinch-zoom and the on-screen keyboard
  • Copy text and images between phone and Tally
  • Saving exports to the phone (storage redirection)

What doesn't

  • Printing to a printer (share a PDF instead)
  • USB DSC tokens
  • Ordinary mice (only via AssistiveTouch or a few supported models)
Set up on iPhone

Minimum versions from the App Store (Windows App Mobile 11.3.8, 24 Sep 2026) and Google Play listings. Feature support from Microsoft's Windows App feature comparison.

Older iPhone or iPad? If your device can't install iOS or iPadOS 26, the App Store may offer only an older version of the app, or none at all. Don't guess: start the free 7-day trial, try your exact device, and fall back to a laptop or a newer tablet if it struggles.

Chromebook? Windows App runs on Chromebooks that support Play Store apps, so you install it just as on an Android tablet. Our Tally on Linux & Chromebook guide covers ChromeOS and Ubuntu in detail.

How to use Tally on mobile

Set up TallyPrime on your phone or tablet, step by step

Once your server is ready, we send a welcome message with your server address, gateway and username, and we can walk you through the first sign-in on a WhatsApp call. After that, opening Tally on your phone takes two taps.

Android 11+

On an Android phone

  1. Open Google Play, search for Windows App and install the one published by Microsoft Corporation.
  2. Tap + to add a PC and enter the server address, gateway and username from our welcome message.
  3. In the app's General settings, turn on Use scancode input when available so Tally's shortcut keys reach the server correctly.
  4. Connect, enter your password and two-step code, and TallyPrime opens. Rotate to landscape.

Keyboard behaviour on Android is documented in Microsoft's keyboard, mouse and touch guide.

iOS 26.0+

On an iPhone

  1. In the App Store, install Windows App Mobile by Microsoft Corporation. It's free.
  2. Tap +, choose PC, enter the server details we sent and tap Add & Connect.
  3. Sign in, approve the two-step prompt and open TallyPrime. Turn the phone sideways.
  4. Tap items on TallyPrime's top menu (Go To, Share, Export) and its right-hand button bar instead of hunting for F-keys on the on-screen keyboard.

Tip: allow storage access in the connection settings if you want exported PDFs to appear in the Files app.

iPadOS 26.0+

On an iPad with a keyboard

  1. Install the same Windows App Mobile and add your server as on iPhone.
  2. Pair a hardware keyboard: Apple's own or any third-party hardware keyboard. Add a trackpad or mouse if you like.
  3. Ctrl and Alt shortcuts pass straight to TallyPrime. If your keyboard has no function-key row, click the matching button (F2 Date, F8 Sales…) on Tally's right-hand bar.
  4. Connected to an external monitor? Windows App can use it, which is handy at a desk.

Our Tally cloud shortcut keys guide lists every key combination for iPad and Mac keyboards.

Android 11+

On an Android tablet

  1. Install Windows App from Google Play and add your server as on an Android phone.
  2. Turn on Use scancode input when available under General.
  3. Pair a Bluetooth keyboard and, if you want one, a mouse. Microsoft lists mouse support only on Android, so trackpad gestures may not work.
  4. Use landscape mode; at 10 inches and up, most TallyPrime screens fit without zooming.

Your licence, counted fairly. Each person using TallyPrime over Remote Desktop counts as a Tally Virtual User. Silver includes one and Gold includes ten concurrent virtual users, per Tally's TVU FAQ. If you sign in with the same login on your laptop and then your phone, you normally pick up the same session, with that half-typed voucher still on screen. More in Tally Virtual User explained.

Sending documents from a phone

No printer on your phone? Send the PDF instead.

Microsoft's Windows App doesn't redirect printers on iPhone, iPad or Android, so the print command can't reach a printer beside you. TallyPrime has three built-in ways around that, and two of them cost nothing extra.

E-mail it: Ctrl+M

Open the invoice or report and press Ctrl+M, or tap Share on the top menu. Send the PDF to your customer, or to yourself and forward it from your phone. Set up your e-mail once in TallyPrime; release 7.1 added secure sign-in for Gmail and Microsoft accounts (release notes).

Export it: Ctrl+E

Where storage redirection is switched on, your phone's shared folder appears inside the session. Point TallyPrime's export location at it once, and every PDF or Excel export lands in the Files app or your Android storage, ready for AirPrint or Android's print service.

WhatsApp it: Ctrl+Alt+W

This sends the voucher straight to the party's WhatsApp through Tally's paid WhatsApp for Business service, which needs a subscription and an active TSS (Tally help). It is not a way to get a PDF onto your own phone.

Need paper copies? Print from a Windows PC or Mac, where your local printer appears inside the session, or print the PDF from your phone. Our guide to printing from Tally on cloud covers dot-matrix printers, pre-printed stationery and the exact PDF steps for iPad and Android. Shortcut keys are from Tally's official keyboard shortcuts list.

Mobile data

Does Tally on mobile eat your data? Hardly.

Remote Desktop sends screen updates and keystrokes, not your company files. Microsoft has measured how much that uses, and the numbers are small next to streaming video or a video call.

  • Idle is almost free. An idle session uses about 0.3 Kbps, per Microsoft's RDP bandwidth guide.
  • Working is modest. Microsoft measured 100–150 Kbps for active Word use and 150–200 Kbps for Excel at 1080p. TallyPrime's text-and-forms screens are broadly similar (our estimate).
  • Tally recommends at least 512 Kbps for virtual users, per its TVU FAQ. Ordinary 4G clears that comfortably.
  • Distance matters more than speed. Your server is in India, so the round trip stays short; a steady signal beats a fast but patchy one.

If your signal drops in a lift or a basement godown, the session keeps running on the server. Reopen Windows App and you're back on the same screen, within the server's disconnect time limit. For broadband and Wi-Fi sizing, read how much internet speed Tally on cloud needs.

0.3 Kbpsidle Remote Desktop session (Microsoft)
150–200Kbps for active Excel-type work (Microsoft)
512 Kbpsminimum Tally lists for virtual users
≈90 MBan hour of non-stop work at 200 Kbps (worst-case arithmetic)

200 Kbps × 3,600 seconds ÷ 8 = 90,000 KB, or about 90 MB. Real use includes pauses, so most sessions use far less. Big exports and file transfers add a little extra.

Security on a phone

Phones get lost. Your books shouldn't.

With Remote Desktop your company data never lives on the phone. It stays on the server, so a lost handset is an access problem you can shut off, not a data leak, as long as you set things up sensibly.

Two-step login

Turn on two-step login for every user who works from a phone. A stolen password alone then isn't enough to open your server.

Idle sessions time out

Ask us to set an idle limit, so a session left open on a phone on the dining table disconnects by itself. Your work is kept; the screen is not left open.

Lock the phone, not just Tally

Use a screen lock with fingerprint or face unlock, avoid saving your server password on a shared tablet, and keep TallyPrime's own user passwords on for each company.

Lost your phone? Do these four things

Tell us straight away

WhatsApp or call +91 97168 56953 from another phone. We can reset your server password and sign out any open session.

Lock or erase the phone

Use Find My on an iPhone or iPad, or Google's device-finder on Android, to lock the handset or wipe it remotely.

Change related passwords

Change your TallyPrime user password and any e-mail account the phone could reach, then re-enrol two-step login on your new phone.

Check the Day Book

Look for vouchers you don't recognise since the phone went missing. Daily automated backups with 30-day retention mean we can restore if anything was changed.

FAQ

Tally on mobile: your questions answered

Can I use Tally on my mobile phone?

Yes. TallyPrime doesn't install on phones, but you can open your full TallyPrime, running on a Windows cloud server, from an Android phone or iPhone with Microsoft's free Windows App. Every report, voucher type and GST screen works because it is the same Windows program. A phone suits quick lookups and approvals; for longer data entry, use a tablet or laptop with a keyboard.

Which iPhone, iPad and Android versions do I need?

Microsoft's Windows App currently needs iOS or iPadOS 26.0 or later on iPhone and iPad, and Android 11 or later on Android phones and tablets. It also runs on Chromebooks that support Play Store apps. If your phone cannot update, the store may not offer the current app, so use the free 7-day trial to check your exact device before you subscribe.

Does TallyPrime Cloud Access work on mobile?

Not at present. Tally's own TallyPrime Cloud Access FAQ, updated 29 September 2026, says mobile and tablet devices are not supported, either through its client or through a browser. It is designed for desktops and laptops. A Windows Remote Desktop server such as TallyoCloud works on Android, iPhone and iPad through Microsoft's free Windows App.

How do I send an invoice from Tally on my phone?

Open the invoice in TallyPrime and press Ctrl+M, or tap Share on the top menu, to e-mail it as a PDF to your customer or to yourself. Ctrl+Alt+W sends it straight to the party on WhatsApp, but that is Tally's paid WhatsApp for Business service and needs an active TSS. Phones can't print over Remote Desktop, so print the PDF with AirPrint or Android's print service.

Do I need internet to use Tally on mobile?

Yes. Remote Desktop streams the TallyPrime screen from the server, so your phone needs a live connection and nothing runs offline. The demand is small: Microsoft measures about 0.3 Kbps for an idle session and 150 to 200 Kbps for active spreadsheet work, and Tally lists 512 Kbps as the minimum for virtual users. Ordinary 4G or office Wi-Fi is usually enough.

Do I need an extra Tally licence to use TallyPrime on my phone?

Not a new licence, but each person using TallyPrime over Remote Desktop counts as a Tally Virtual User. A Silver licence includes one and Gold includes ten concurrent virtual users; Gold owners can buy extra packs from Tally at about ₹125 per user per month. If you sign in with the same login on your laptop and phone, you normally reconnect to one session.

Can I do full data entry on an iPad or Android tablet?

Yes. A tablet with a hardware keyboard is a capable Tally machine: Ctrl and Alt shortcuts pass through to TallyPrime, iPads also accept a mouse or trackpad, and the Android app supports a mouse. If your keyboard has no function-key row, tap the matching button on TallyPrime's right-hand button bar. Keep the phone for lookups and quick approvals.

Mobile me Tally kaise chalaye?

Mobile me TallyPrime seedha install nahi hota, kyunki woh sirf Windows par chalta hai. Tarika simple hai: Play Store ya App Store se Microsoft ka free Windows App daaliye, hamare bheje hue server details daaliye aur login kijiye. Aapka poora TallyPrime, saare vouchers aur reports ke saath, phone par khul jayega. Step-by-step Hindi guide hamare blog par hai.
