How to choose the best Tally on Cloud service provider in India

Search for the best Tally cloud provider and you'll find lists published by the providers they recommend. This guide gives you something you can check instead: 12 questions built on Tally's licensing rules, Microsoft's licensing terms and Indian regulations, dated market prices, and a scorecard you can fill in and print. We sell hosting too, and we say so up front.

  • Written by a provider, and disclosed
  • Every rule linked to its source
  • Market prices dated, ex-GST
  • No star ratings, no paid mentions

Quick answer

The best Tally on Cloud service provider is the one that passes 12 checks, not the one with the lowest price. It hosts your own licence legally, includes a Microsoft Remote Desktop licence for every user, names its data centre in India, publishes backup retention and a written SLA, and lets you leave with your data.

Read this first

Disclosure: we're a provider, so here's how we wrote this

TallyoCloud sells Tally on Cloud hosting, so we compete with every provider this page mentions. That is exactly why the guide doesn't crown a winner. It gives you criteria anyone can check, the sources behind them and the date we checked.

Where the 12 checks come from

Each check rests on a rule you can read for yourself: Tally's licensing and Tally Virtual User pages, Microsoft's Remote Desktop licensing documentation, the Companies (Accounts) Rules and the CERT-In Directions. We added the gaps we saw most often when we reviewed 16 published Tally hosting offers.

Sources and dates

Rules link to Tally Solutions, Microsoft and Indian government sources. Market prices are as shown on each provider's own page on 6 October 2026, excluding 18% GST. Prices change often, so check the live page before you buy, and tell us at tallyocloud@gmail.com if ours is out of date.

What we won't do

No rankings, no star ratings, no paid placements and no "number one" badge, for us or anyone else. We name other providers only next to the prices they publish themselves. Our own answers to the 12 questions are further down, including the ones where we fall short.

Who we are: TallyoCloud is an independent host and does not claim to be a Tally partner. TallyPrime is a trademark of Tally Solutions Pvt. Ltd. How we research, write and correct pages is set out in our editorial policy, and who runs the company is on our about page.

The checklist

The 12 questions to ask any Tally on Cloud provider

Send these to every host on your shortlist, in writing. A good provider answers each one in a line or two and points you to a document. Vague answers are an answer too.

  1. 01Licensing

Will the TallyPrime licence be in our company's name, and used only by us?

Tally lets you host your own licence on a cloud for your own business. Its licensing guidance (updated 11 Jun 2026) also says each licence is tied to a single legal business entity, and sharing one across entities "will be treated as misuse". Tally's terms of use bar renting the software to others, so a host can't rent you seats on its own licence.

Good answer"Your own licence, bought or rented in your company's name, activated on your server. We never share licences."
Red flag"Licence included" for less than Tally's own Silver rental of ₹750 a month, or one single-user licence "from any location".
  2. 02Licensing

How many Tally Virtual Users will we use, and who buys extra packs?

Tally counts every TallyPrime instance opened over Remote Desktop or cloud as a Tally Virtual User. Silver includes 1 and Gold 10; extra packs cost ₹125 per user per month, billed annually, per Tally's TVU FAQ (29 Mar 2026). One person with two Tally windows open uses two. Go over the limit and TallyPrime opens in Educational mode. Our Tally Virtual User guide walks through the maths.

Good answerThey count your busiest hour with you before go-live and say whether you need packs.
Red flag"Unlimited users" on a Silver licence, or no mention of virtual users at all.
  3. 03Licensing

Is a Microsoft Remote Desktop licence included for every user?

Microsoft says each user or device that connects to a Remote Desktop Services host needs a client access licence, and the 120-day grace period is not a licence. Hosts serving other businesses pay for this monthly per authorised user through Microsoft's SPLA programme. It's a real cost, and one reason very cheap seats are cheap. Microsoft's desktop-hosting guide adds that there is no SPLA for Windows client operating systems.

Good answer"Yes, one per named user, shown on your quote."
Red flagSilence, "you don't need one", or a Windows 10 or 11 desktop per user on shared hardware.
  4. 04Server & data

Is the server private to our company, and what CPU and RAM does each user get?

Tally's TVU FAQ says the licence and company data can't sit on separate virtual machines. Shared seats put many businesses on one Windows server and its memory. Tally's hardware guide sizes memory for Remote Desktop use as RAM per instance × instances × users; its example is 500 MB × 2 × 20 users, about 20 GB. See how we size a private Tally cloud server.

Good answerA private virtual machine for your company, with vCPU and RAM stated in the plan.
Red flag"Unlimited" resources with no numbers, or one large shared pool of RAM for every customer.
  5. 05Server & data

Which data centre, in which Indian city, holds our server and our backups?

Tally's licensing guidance says a licence must be used mainly, 75% of the time, in the region it was bought for. Companies must also back up electronic books daily on servers in India and report their provider's name, IP address and location to the Registrar each year, under the Companies (Accounts) Rules as amended in 2022. Tier ratings belong to the facility, so check them with the certifier, not on a host's badge.

Good answerThe facility and city named in writing, with backups also in India.
Red flag"Tier IV data centre" with no facility name, or servers outside India.
  6. 06Server & data

How often are backups taken, how many days are they kept, and where?

Nearly every plan we reviewed promises daily backups; almost none says how long they're kept. A three-day history won't help if a deleted voucher or a ransomware infection surfaces two weeks later. Even Tally's own Cloud Access keeps backups downloadable for only 7 days after a subscription expires, per its backup help page. Our security and backups page shows what a full answer looks like.

Good answerFrequency, retention in days, an off-server copy, and a way to download your own backup.
Red flag"Backups included" with no number of days.
  7. 07Server & data

Will you restore one of our companies from backup during the trial?

A backup nobody has restored is a hope, not a plan. Ask the provider to restore yesterday's copy of one company into a test folder while you watch, then open your heaviest report in it. You learn how long a restore takes, who does it and whether it costs extra, before a GST due date makes the answer urgent.

Good answer"Yes, on your own data, this week," with a rough restore time.
Red flagNo restore ever tested, or restore fees that only appear when you need one.
  8. 08Service

Is uptime promised in a written SLA with credits, and can we see the history?

Uptime claims from 99.9% to 99.99% are common on provider pages; far fewer link to a document saying how uptime is measured, what is excluded and what credit you get. Tally's Cloud Access page states no uptime commitment. A public status page with incident history, or a monthly report for your server, lets you check the number. Compare any SLA with ours.

Good answerA linked SLA with measurement, exclusions and credits, plus a status page or report.
Red flag"100% uptime", or a percentage with no document behind it.
  9. 09Service

Who answers when Tally won't open at 10 pm on a GST due date?

Most providers say "24×7". Ask what it covers: outages only, or how-to questions too. Ask which channels (WhatsApp, phone, email), which languages, and whether the person who answers knows TallyPrime and Remote Desktop rather than just servers. Ask how a server-down call is prioritised against a printer question, and get the answer in writing.

Good answerHours per channel, languages and a written order of priority.
Red flagTicket-only support, or "24×7" with nothing written down.
  10. 10Service

If we leave, how do we get our data and licence back, and how fast?

Your companies are ordinary TallyPrime data and the licence belongs to your business, so moving is routine: back up, surrender the licence on the old server and reactivate it on the new one. The risk is timing. Tally's own Cloud Access allows 7 days after expiry to download backups, so ask every host for its exit window in writing. The steps are in our Tally data migration guide.

Good answerA written exit period, a full final copy before deletion, and deletion confirmed.
Red flagNo exit terms at all, or data held back with no timeline.
  11. 11Fit

Does it work on every device our team uses, including printing?

TallyPrime installs only on Windows. On a Windows host, Microsoft's free Windows App connects from Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android and Chromebook. Microsoft lists printer redirection for Windows and Mac clients only, so phones export a PDF. Tally's Cloud Access FAQ (29 Sep 2026) says mobile and tablet devices aren't supported. More in our guide to printing from Tally on Cloud.

Good answer"Test every device and your real printers, stationery and signing token in the trial."
Red flag"Works on every device" with no word about printing limits.
  12. 12Trust

Can you prove who you are, and will you verify who we are?

Check the legal name on the provider's invoice against the GST portal's taxpayer search, and ask for its profile on Tally's Partner Locator if it claims partnership. Under the CERT-In Directions of 28 April 2022, cloud providers must record validated customer details at sign-up, report incidents within six hours and keep logs in India for 180 days. A host that asks you nothing is skipping a legal duty.

Good answerLegal name, address and GSTIN on the site, a partner profile link if claimed, and a verified sign-up.
Red flagA "certified partner" badge with no profile, or no legal name anywhere.

GST on top, everywhere

Every price above excludes 18% GST, which registered businesses can usually claim back as input tax credit. Compare totals on the same basis: a ₹500 seat is ₹590 with GST.

The same licence costs with any host

TallyPrime Silver costs ₹22,500 once or ₹750 a month on rental; Gold costs ₹67,500 or ₹2,250 a month, ex-GST, per Tally's customer hub. Virtual-user packs are extra too. None of this changes with the host.

Why the cheapest seats are cheap

A Remote Desktop licence per user, a fair share of RAM, long backup retention and real support all cost money every month. When a price leaves room for none of them, ask which one is missing.

Watch for these

Red flags, and how to check a "Tally partner" claim

The search results for this topic include classified-ad listings, press releases and lists written by the companies they rank. These signs separate a careful provider from a risky one, whoever wrote the list you found them on.

Eight red flags in a Tally hosting offer

  • "Licence included" below ₹750 a month, Tally's own Silver rental price, or one single-user licence promised for many locations.
  • No Remote Desktop licences mentioned anywhere in the plan or the quote.
  • "Unlimited" users, storage or RAM with no numbers attached.
  • An uptime percentage, or "100%", with no SLA document behind it.
  • A "Tier IV" or "certified" data centre with no facility name or city.
  • "Daily backups" with no retention period.
  • A "certified Tally partner" badge with no Partner Locator profile to back it.
  • No legal name, address or GSTIN on the site or invoice, and no verification when you sign up.

Check a partner claim in four steps

  1. Open Tally's Partner Locator on tallysolutions.com and search by city or company name.
  2. Ask the provider for its profile link. Genuine partners have a page under tallysolutions.com/partners/ and can share it in seconds.
  3. Match the names. The company on the profile should match the provider's invoice and its GSTIN on the GST portal.
  4. Know what it proves. Partnership lets a firm sell licences, TSS and virtual-user packs. It says nothing about its servers, backups or support.

When we checked on 6 October 2026, some hosts had partner profiles and several others showing "certified partner" wording had none we could find. A missing profile under a guessed web address proves nothing, so ask rather than assume. You don't need a partner to host your own licence: Tally's guidance allows it with any provider.

Reading "Tally cloud reviews" and Reddit threads: forums and review sites are useful for spotting repeated complaints about slow sessions, printing or billing. They are still anecdotes, often undated. Turn each complaint into a question from the list above, and check the answer in your trial.

We're a good fit if…

  • Someone works on a Mac, iPhone, iPad or Android, or you want the full Windows TallyPrime rather than a browser session.
  • You want a private server for your company, with Remote Desktop licences included and the data-centre city stated.
  • You'd like hands-on onboarding: data moved, licence reactivated and every device set up with you.
  • You rely on add-ons or utilities that need a Windows server, after a compatibility check.

Look elsewhere if…

  • The lowest monthly price matters most. Tally's own Cloud Access starts at ₹600 per user and budget hosts list less; we charge a flat ₹799 per user a month.
  • You want one firm to sell the licence, TSS and hosting together. We don't sell TallyPrime licences or virtual-user packs; a Tally partner can.
  • You only view reports and the office PC stays on. Tally's own remote access options may be enough.
  • You need a public uptime history before signing. Ours isn't published yet.
  • You print to counter or barcode printers from a phone. Remote Desktop on iPhone and Android can't redirect printers, with any provider.

FAQ

Choosing a Tally cloud provider: your questions

Which is the best Tally on Cloud provider in India?

There is no single best provider for every business. Shortlist hosts that run your own licence in your company's name, include a Microsoft Remote Desktop licence for each user, name their data centre in India, publish backup retention and a written SLA, and let you leave with a full copy of your data. Then trial your top two from your own office, devices and printers.

How can I check if a provider is really a Tally partner?

Search Tally Solutions' public Partner Locator on tallysolutions.com. Genuine partners have a profile page there, so ask the provider for that link and match the company name on it to their invoice and GSTIN. Some hosts show 'certified partner' badges that we could not match to any listing. TallyoCloud is an independent host and does not claim to be a Tally partner.

Why do Tally cloud prices vary so much?

On 6 October 2026, published prices ran from about ₹150 per user to more than ₹10,000 per server each month, before GST. Providers differ on whether the server is shared, whether Microsoft Remote Desktop licences are included, how much memory each user gets, how long backups are kept, support hours and the SLA. Compare inclusions first, then add 18% GST, your TallyPrime licence and any virtual-user packs.

Is Tally on Cloud good for a small business?

Usually, yes, if someone needs Tally away from the office PC, on a Mac or a phone, or several people work on the same books. You trade a monthly fee and dependence on your internet and your provider for no server to buy, managed backups and access from anywhere. If one person uses Tally at one Windows PC, a local install with good backups may be enough.

Can I trust 'best Tally cloud provider' lists and online reviews?

Read them with care. Many lists are published by a provider, including this guide, or posted on classified and press-release sites. Check the date, whether the author sells hosting, and whether prices and partner claims link to a source. Forum threads and review sites help you spot recurring complaints about speed, printing or billing, so treat them as questions to ask rather than verdicts.

Is a shared Tally cloud server allowed under Tally's rules?

Tally lets you host your own licence on a cloud for your own business, requires the licence and company data to sit on the same virtual machine, and calls sharing one licence across different companies a violation. It has not said in writing that separate customers' licences may share one Remote Desktop server, so a private server for each company is the cautious choice.

Do I need a Tally partner to put TallyPrime on the cloud?

No. Tally's licensing guidance says you can host your own licence on a cloud platform for your own business use, with any provider. You buy or renew a licence, rental, TSS or extra Tally Virtual User packs from Tally or an authorised partner, and Tally's own TallyPrime Cloud Access is sold through partners. The hosting itself can come from anyone who passes the checks.
