For manufacturers & job-workers

Tally for manufacturing companies and job-workers, on the cloud

Your licensed TallyPrime runs on a private Windows server in India, so the factory stores, the city accounts office and your CA work in one live company. Bills of material, manufacturing journals and job-work challans post from the plant; purchases, sales and MSME payments from the office. Nothing important lives on a dusty shop-floor PC.

  • Factory, office & CA on one company
  • Use your existing TallyPrime licence
  • Daily automated backups in India
  • Starting from ₹799/month
Quick answer

Tally for a manufacturing company works best when the factory, the accounts office and the CA share one live TallyPrime company. With TallyoCloud, your licensed TallyPrime runs on a private Windows server in India: stores post BoM-based manufacturing journals and job-work challans from the plant, the office bills and pays, and backups run in the data centre.

Two sites, one set of books

Factory, office and CA on one live company

A manufacturing unit rarely keeps its books in one building. Raw material arrives at the factory gate, bills are passed in a city office, goods go out to job-workers on challans, and the CA wants all of it at the end of the quarter. When TallyPrime sits on one PC, everyone else works from copies.

The usual fixes each leave a gap. A factory PC with a remote-control app lets one person in at a time. Two installations joined by Tally's data synchronisation keep two copies that only agree after each sync, and our guide to Tally data synchronisation versus one cloud server explains where those copies drift. A pen drive carried to the CA is out of date the moment it leaves the building.

On Tally on Cloud the company data sits on a private Windows server, and every location opens the same company through an encrypted Remote Desktop connection. Stores, accounts, the owner and the CA each have their own login and see the same stock, the same payables and the same job-work balances. How several people and branches work in one company at once is covered on our Tally on Cloud multi-user page.

TallyPrime for manufacturing

BOM, manufacturing journals and scrap, the same at both sites

TallyPrime for a manufacturing company needs no separate module. Its inventory features cover what most small and mid-sized plants record, and on a cloud server they behave exactly as they do on a desktop, with the same screens and shortcuts.

For a single manufacturing unit

A small manufacturing unit often has one person who does stores and accounts, and an owner who wants to see stock from home. That still benefits from the cloud: the books aren't tied to one PC near the machines, the owner can check finished stock and dues from a phone, and backups no longer depend on someone remembering a pen drive.

For garment and textile manufacturers

Tally for a garment manufacturing company is mostly about job-work and variants. Fabric may go to one unit for embroidery, another for printing and a third for stitching, each on its own challan, while every style comes in several sizes and colours. Stock categories help group those variants, and because the cutting floor, dispatch desk and office all post into one company, everyone sees the same pending quantity at each job-worker.

Using a production or costing TDL? Each TallyoCloud customer gets a private server, so add-ons from your Tally partner run there as they do on your PC. We check your TDLs during the trial, before anything moves.

  • Same TallyPrime release everywhere. The factory and the office can't drift onto different versions, because there is only one installation.
  • Heavy reports run on the server. Stock summaries and cost reports use the server's processor, not an old shop-floor PC.
  • Per-user access. TallyPrime's security levels can let stores enter stock journals without opening bank books.

Job-work and ITC-04: CBIC due dates, worked out

When you send inputs or capital goods to a job-worker without paying GST, you, as the principal, report those challans in Form GST ITC-04. Since 1 October 2021, how often you file depends on last year's aggregate turnover.

Above ₹5 crore: half-yearly

April to September is due by 25 October; October to March is due by 25 April. The test is your aggregate turnover in the preceding financial year.

Up to ₹5 crore: once a year

One ITC-04 covers the whole financial year, due by 25 April after it ends. The government can extend these dates by notification, so check with your CA each time.

The return clock

Under section 143 of the CGST Act, inputs must come back within one year and capital goods within three. Otherwise they are treated as supplied on the day they left. Moulds and dies, jigs and fixtures, and tools are outside these limits.

Which ITC-04 covers a challan, and when it is due

Pick your turnover band, the date goods left for the job-worker and what was sent. The finder shows the filing period, its due date and the date by which the goods must come back.

A planning aid, not tax advice. Periods follow rule 45(3) of the CGST Rules as amended by Notification 35/2021–Central Tax (from 1 October 2021); return limits follow section 143 of the CGST Act. Due dates can be extended by notification, and your CA should confirm every filing.

Why the cloud helps with job-work

ITC-04 is only as good as the challans behind it. When Material Out and Material In vouchers are posted at the factory into the same company the CA opens, there is no month-end hunt for a register kept on another PC. TallyPrime's job-work reports, including the Job Work Out Order Book, the Material Movement Register, Stock with Job Worker and Stock Ageing Analysis, show what is pending with whom and for how long. That is exactly what you need to watch the one-year limit and to give your CA what they need for ITC-04 on the GST portal.

Ageing matters more than the form. Inputs that sit with a job-worker for more than a year are treated as supplied by you on the day they left, so tax becomes payable on them. Review job-work stock ageing every month, not just when ITC-04 is due.

Paying MSME suppliers

MSME payments: late ones are deductible only in the year you pay

Many of your raw-material suppliers and job-workers are micro or small enterprises. Paying them after the legal limit doesn't just strain the relationship; it moves your tax deduction into a later year.

The payment clock under section 15 of the MSMED Act

Counted from the day you accept the goods or services, or are deemed to have accepted them.

Day 0 to 15On time for everyone. With no written agreement, this is your limit.
Day 16 to 45On time only if a written agreement sets a later date, and only up to that date. No agreement can go beyond 45 days.
After the limitLate. The expense is deductible only in the year you actually pay.

The rule used to sit in section 43B(h) of the Income-tax Act, 1961. The Finance Ministry told the Rajya Sabha on 21 July 2026 that it now corresponds to section 37(2)(g) of the Income-tax Act, 2025, and that such sums are allowed only on actual payment (summary on TaxGuru).

An example. You accept steel from a small enterprise on 10 March 2027 under a written 45-day agreement. Pay on 15 April and the purchase is deductible in FY 2026-27 as usual. Pay on 10 May, after the limit, and it is deductible only in FY 2027-28, the year you actually paid.

TallyPrime has helped with this since Release 4.1: you record Udyam numbers for your company and suppliers, and track payables to micro and small suppliers separately, with upcoming and overdue bills worked out on the 15-day, 45-day or agreed-date rule. It also gathers the details companies need for Form MSME-1 (TallyPrime 4.1 release notes; Tally's MSME guide).

  • One overdue list, seen by everyone who pays. The office, the owner and the CA open the same MSME payables report, so nobody works from a printout made last week.
  • A March review that is actually current. Before 31 March your CA can see which MSME bills are past their limit and still unpaid, while there is time to act.
  • Supplier status kept on the ledger. Udyam details sit on each supplier's ledger in the one company, not in a spreadsheet at the factory.

A summary, not tax advice. Whether a supplier qualifies (micro or small, not medium), when goods count as accepted and how the rule applies to your purchases are questions for your CA.

Life at the plant

Shop-floor tablets, power cuts and seasonal peaks

Factories are hard on computers. Here is how a cloud server changes the day-to-day problems at a manufacturing unit, and where its limits are.

Tablets near the line

An Android tablet or iPad with Microsoft's free Windows App opens the full TallyPrime on your server. It suits material issues, stock journals and quick stock checks without walking to the office. Add a keyboard for regular entry; on a phone, TallyPrime works but is best for look-ups.

Tally on Android, iPhone and iPad

Power cuts stay on the shop floor

The computer that holds your books is in a data centre, not beside the machines. If the plant loses power or the inverter gives up, only that screen's connection drops. Reconnect when power returns; every voucher already saved is on the server, and dust, heat and a failing disk on a factory PC can no longer take the company with them.

If your Tally data is already damaged

Modest factory internet

Remote Desktop sends screen updates, not your data files. Microsoft's bandwidth guide puts office-style work at roughly 150–200 Kbps per user, so a 4G router works. Keep a second connection for busy days.

Seasonal peaks

Diwali orders, winter hosiery or wedding-season garments bring temporary staff. Add logins for the busy months and remove them after; our per-user fee stops with the login. Tally's own TVU packs are billed yearly, so size those for your peak.

Printing challans

Windows PCs and Macs print to their own printers through the session. Tablets and phones can't redirect printers, per Microsoft's Windows App comparison, so keep one PC at dispatch or share a PDF.

Private limited? Daily backups on servers in India

The Companies (Accounts) Rules, 2014 ask companies that keep books electronically to back them up daily on servers in India and to report their service provider's details each year when filing financial statements. Your books sit in a secure data centre in India, and company customers get a letter with the provider details plus a daily-backup log. Daily automated backups are kept off-server with 30-day retention; see every control on our Tally on Cloud security page.

Users and plans

How many logins a factory needs, and which plan fits

Count the people who will have TallyPrime open at the same time: stores, accounts, dispatch, the owner and your CA. That number decides both your hosting plan and how many Tally Virtual Users your licence must cover.

Prices from our pricing page, billed monthly. Your TallyPrime licence, TSS and any extra TVU packs are bought from Tally Solutions or a partner in your business's name. Licence rules from Tally's TVU FAQ, explained in our Tally Virtual User guide.

Your CA's login counts too. When your CA signs in to your server to work on your company, that session uses one of your virtual users. If they only need occasional access, Tally's own Remote Access is another route; our guide to Tally remote access options compares them, and the page for CA firms covers the CA's side.

Moving your plant's books

From factory PC to cloud server, in four steps

Most of the work is ours. Your job is to tell us who needs access and to test the reports you rely on.

Try it on your own data

Start the free 7-day trial on a private server with a copy of your books and Tally's trial licence in your name. Post a manufacturing journal, raise a Material Out challan and print it at the factory.

Move the licence and data

On go-live day we restore every company, reactivate your licence and migrate older Tally.ERP 9 data if needed. Our data migration guide lists each step.

One login per person

Stores, accounts, dispatch, the owner and the CA each get their own login with two-factor sign-in, and TallyPrime security levels decide what each can see.

Go live at a quiet moment

Pick a month start or a weekend, so stock and job-work balances carry over cleanly. Keep the old PC read-only for a few weeks, just in case.

FAQ

Tally for manufacturing companies: questions

Is Tally on Cloud suitable for a manufacturing company?

Yes. Bills of material, manufacturing journals, job-work orders and stock reports work exactly as they do on an office PC, because it is the same Windows TallyPrime running on a private server. What changes is location: factory stores, the city accounts office and your CA all post into one live company, and backups are taken in a data centre instead of on a shop-floor PC.

Does TallyPrime have a separate manufacturing module?

No, and you don't need one. TallyPrime's inventory features cover manufacturing: you set a bill of materials on the finished stock item, record production with a Manufacturing Journal that pulls components from the BoM and works out cost per unit, and account for by-products, co-products and scrap. Job-work orders with Material Out and Material In vouchers handle processing done outside your factory.

How does the cloud help with job-work and ITC-04?

Material Out challans raised at the factory and Material In receipts from job-workers land in the same company the office and your CA use, so stock lying with each job-worker is always current. ITC-04 is filed half-yearly, by 25 October and 25 April, if last year's aggregate turnover exceeded ₹5 crore, and once a year by 25 April otherwise. Your CA can prepare it from the live registers.

How does the MSME payment rule affect my books?

Section 15 of the MSMED Act requires you to pay micro and small suppliers within 15 days of accepting their goods, or by an agreed date no later than 45 days. If you pay after that limit, section 37(2)(g) of the Income-tax Act 2025, which carries over the old section 43B(h), allows the expense only in the year you actually pay. Ask your CA how it applies to your suppliers.

Can factory staff use a tablet on the shop floor?

Yes. An Android tablet or iPad with Microsoft's free Windows App opens the full TallyPrime on your server, which suits stock journals, material issues and stock checks near the line. Add a keyboard for regular entry. Tablets and phones can't send print jobs through Remote Desktop, so print challans and invoices from a Windows PC or Mac, or export a PDF and share it.

What happens to my Tally data during a power cut at the factory?

Your data isn't in the factory. TallyPrime and your company files run on a server in a data centre, so a power cut or a dead inverter at the plant only drops that screen's connection. When power or internet returns, staff reconnect and carry on, and every voucher already saved is on the server. Daily automated backups are stored off-server as well.

How many logins does a factory need, and what about Tally Virtual Users?

Count the people who work in TallyPrime at the same time: stores, accounts, the owner and your CA. Each gets a login on your server, and each open TallyPrime session uses one Tally Virtual User. A Silver licence includes one and Gold includes ten concurrent users; extra packs come from Tally. Our Multi-user plan costs ₹799 per user a month, the same rate however many logins you add.

Is Tally on Cloud a good fit for a garment manufacturing company?

Often, yes. Garment units juggle job-work for embroidery, printing, stitching or dyeing, many size and colour variants, and sharp seasonal peaks. Material Out and Material In vouchers track fabric with each job-worker, stock categories help group variants, and extra logins can be added for the festive or wedding-season rush and removed afterwards. Test your own item list during the free 7-day trial.
