Tally remote access explained: every option, honestly compared
"Tally remote access" can mean five quite different things, and they differ on cost, licences and which devices work. Here we compare Tally's own Tally.NET Remote Access, AnyDesk to an office PC, a VPN, TallyPrime Cloud Access and a hosted Windows server. Every Tally rule links to Tally's own help pages, and we say plainly when a free option is all you need.

Quick answer
Tally remote access means working on your TallyPrime books from outside the office. You have five routes: Tally's built-in Tally.NET Remote Access (active TSS, office PC on, Windows only), AnyDesk to an office PC, a VPN, Tally's TallyPrime Cloud Access (no phones or tablets), or a hosted Windows server you open by Remote Desktop from any device.
Decision table
Which Tally remote access option fits you? Answer four questions.
Pick the devices you need, whether an office PC can stay on, whether your TSS is active and how many people work at once. The table highlights the best-fit route, rules out the ones that can't work and shows how each affects your Tally Virtual User (TVU) count.

When Tally's help pages say "remote access", they mean this. TallyPrime on your office computer connects a company to Tally.NET, Tally Solutions' connection service. An authorised person then opens that company from TallyPrime on another Windows computer, signing in with a Tally.NET ID. It comes with an active TSS, so for many Windows-only offices it costs nothing extra.
What you need
An active TSS on the office licence. Tally's TSS FAQ lists remote access among the services that stop when TSS lapses.
The office PC on, all the time you work. TallyPrime has to be running there, with the company connected to Tally.NET.
TallyPrime on the remote computer too, on the same release as the office. That means a Windows PC, because TallyPrime installs only on Microsoft Windows.
A Tally.NET ID for each remote user, added in Users and Passwords with remote access allowed.
Internet at both ends. Tally recommends broadband of at least 512 kbps, and more as your data grows.
Where it stops
No phones or tablets. Tally's FAQ is direct: "you cannot access your Tally data remotely using your mobile." A laptop on a phone hotspot is fine.
No Mac, Linux or Chromebook, since the remote side must run TallyPrime itself.
Limited admin work. Remote users can't back up, restore or split company data, can export but not import, and can't open group companies.
Capped users. Silver allows 1 remote user and Gold 10 at once, and each Tally.NET user opens one remote company at a time.
Your office PC is the server. If it sleeps, restarts for an update or loses power, everyone outside is locked out.
These menu paths follow Tally's remote access setup guide (updated 20 Jan 2026). Company security must be on, with user access to company data controlled.
Switch it on
On the office PC, press F11 (Features) > Online Access and set Tally.NET Services for Remote Access and Synchronisation to Yes.
Connect the company
Press Alt+K (Company) > Connect, choose the companies to share, select End of List and save with Ctrl+A.
Add remote users
Create Tally.NET IDs on Tally's portal. Then in Alt+K > Users and Passwords, enter each ID as the username, pick a security level such as Net Owner and set Allow Remote Access to Yes.
Log in from outside
On the remote PC, open TallyPrime, choose Remote Company on the company selection screen, sign in with the Tally.NET ID and password, and pick the company.
Who it suits: a CA, partner or owner on a Windows laptop who mainly checks reports or posts a few vouchers, while the office PC stays on anyway. If that's you, use it: it's already paid for with your TSS.
Option 2 · screen sharing
AnyDesk or TeamViewer to an office PC: quick, but one seat
You install a screen-sharing app on an office computer that already runs TallyPrime, then take control of it from your laptop or phone. It's the fastest thing to set up, and it's how many offices first try "Tally AnyDesk" access.
The licensing news is good. Asked whether TVU applies to applications like AnyDesk, Tally's TVU FAQ answers "No. There will be no impact." You are only looking at the one TallyPrime already running on that PC, and no TSS is needed to reach it.
The catches are practical. Only one person can drive that PC at a time, and nobody at the office can use it while you do. It must stay switched on and online, so a power cut, a Windows update restart or sleep mode locks you out. On a phone you're steering a full Windows desktop through a small screen. And AnyDesk says its free version is for private use; business use needs a paid licence.
The whole desktop is exposed. Anyone who gets that PC's ID and password, or whom a staff member approves by mistake, sees your email, browser and banking as well as Tally. Set a strong unattended-access password, turn on two-factor login, and never accept a connection you didn't expect.
AnyDesk-style screen sharing compared with Remote Desktop into the same office PC
RDP into an office PC is covered in depth in our Tally RDP guide, including why port 3389 should never face the internet. For TVU counting rules, see Tally Virtual User explained.
Option 3 · network tunnel
Tally over VPN: fine for files, wrong for Tally
A VPN puts your laptop "inside" the office network over the internet. That sounds like the perfect way to share a Gold licence from home, and it's the most common "tally vpn" plan we hear about. Tally's own rules and its performance guidance both say otherwise.
The licence isn't supported
Tally's licensing FAQ says the licence "is not supported for any LAN created by VPN or connected by VPN." So Gold's unlimited-users-on-a-LAN sharing doesn't stretch across a VPN. Tally points remote users to Tally Virtual Users for RDP and cloud instead.
The network is far too slow
In multi-user mode TallyPrime reads company data across the network and answers clients one request at a time. Tally's performance checklist asks for a ping under 5 ms between client and server, which an internet VPN rarely gets near. Reports crawl and dropped links put data at risk.
Where a VPN does help: as a secure tunnel to Remote Desktop on an office server, so port 3389 never faces the internet. Tally's TVU FAQ says a VPN on its own isn't virtual usage, but VPN plus RDP is, so each session then uses a TVU. If your branches swap data instead, compare Tally data synchronisation with one cloud server.
Option 4 · Tally's own cloud
TallyPrime Cloud Access: no office PC, no phones
Tally Solutions sells hosted TallyPrime itself. Formerly marketed as TallyPrime on AWS, it now runs on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and starts at ₹600 per user per month plus GST, with ₹450 per user on larger packs. You need a TallyPrime licence as well, bought separately. Unlike Tally.NET Remote Access, nothing has to stay on at your office.
Good fit if
Your team works on Windows or Linux through Tally's client, or on a Mac through a browser.
You want Tally itself to run the service, with Tally.NET ID and Secure PIN sign-in and automatic backups.
Price matters most: ₹600 a user is less than our own ₹799 per user a month.
Look elsewhere if
Anyone needs an iPhone, iPad or Android: Tally's FAQ says mobile and tablet aren't supported.
You print a lot from a Mac: browser printing is PDF-only.
You rely on third-party .exe or .dll add-ons, or Microsoft Office, which Tally's FAQ says aren't supported.
Hosted Windows server: full TallyPrime on any device
A provider runs your licensed TallyPrime on a Windows server in a data centre, and you open it over Remote Desktop. It's the genuine Windows app, with every shortcut, TDL and GST feature, and nothing has to stay on at the office.
Every device. Windows has Remote Desktop Connection built in. Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android and Play Store Chromebooks use Microsoft's free Windows App, and Linux uses Remmina.
Data never crosses your line. Only keystrokes and screen updates travel; the company files stay beside TallyPrime on the server.
Clear licensing. Each TallyPrime window opened over RDP uses one Tally Virtual User. Silver includes 1, Gold 10, and Gold can add packs at ₹125 per user per month from Tally. One licence serves one business, never several.
Someone else runs it. With TallyoCloud you get a private server hosted in a secure data centre in India. Daily automated backups, 30-day retention. Set-up within one business day. Support 7 days a week.
Tally remote access not working or very slow? Check these first.
Most Tally.NET problems come from the office end, not yours. Work down each list in order.
Not working
TSS expired. Remote access stops the day TSS lapses; renew it and reconnect.
Office PC asleep or restarted. Set Windows never to sleep, reopen TallyPrime and reconnect with Alt+K > Connect.
User not set up. The Tally.NET ID must be in Users and Passwords with Allow Remote Access set to Yes.
Different releases. Both computers must run the same TallyPrime release; the latest is 7.1.
Limit reached. Silver allows one remote user, Gold ten, and each Tally.NET user one remote company at a time.
Wrong company name in the list. Tally says this points to a connection error: change the company's display name and reconnect.
Trying from a phone. Not supported. Use a laptop on a hotspot, or a hosted server.
Very slow
The office upload speed. With Tally.NET your reports come from the office PC, so its upload speed, not your download, is usually the ceiling. Tally recommends at least 512 kbps, more as data grows.
Heavy reports. Open one month of the Day Book, not the whole year, when you're on a weak link.
A busy office PC. If someone is working on it, or it's short of memory, every remote user waits.
Many users on one Gold licence. Tally's checklist says requests are handled one client at a time, so queues build.
Data folder over VPN. Stop: it's unsupported and slow, as explained above.
If the office PC is the bottleneck every day, that's the sign to move the books off it. Our guide to Tally slow in network covers LAN fixes, and moving Tally data to the cloud shows how a migration works.

Remote access in TallyPrime is Tally's built-in Tally.NET feature. It lets an authorised user open a company kept on the office computer from TallyPrime installed on another Windows PC, over the internet. It needs an active TSS, the company connected to Tally.NET on an office PC that stays on, and the same TallyPrime release at both ends. Tally says it cannot be used from a mobile phone.
Can Tally be accessed remotely from a mobile phone?
Not through Tally.NET Remote Access: Tally's FAQ says you cannot access your Tally data remotely using your mobile, and TallyPrime Cloud Access does not support phones or tablets either. You can remote-control an office PC with AnyDesk from a phone, or open TallyPrime on a hosted Windows server with Microsoft's free Windows App on iPhone, iPad or Android. On phones, export a PDF to print.
How much does Tally remote access cost?
Tally.NET Remote Access comes with an active TSS, which costs ₹4,500 a year for Silver or ₹13,500 for Gold, plus GST. Tally's own TallyPrime Cloud Access starts at ₹600 per user per month plus GST. A TallyoCloud private Windows server costs a flat ₹799 per user per month plus GST. Whichever route you choose, you still need your own TallyPrime licence.
Why is Tally remote access very slow?
With Tally.NET, the office PC serves every report over its own internet line, so a slow upload speed, a PC that sleeps or is busy, several users on one Gold licence, or a full-year report usually causes the lag. Tally recommends at least 512 kbps, more as data grows. With Remote Desktop to a cloud server, data stays on the server and only screen updates travel, so latency matters more than bandwidth.
Tally remote access is not working. What should I check?
Check five things in order. Your TSS must be active. The office PC must be on, with TallyPrime open and the company connected (Alt+K, then Connect). The user's Tally.NET ID must be in Users and Passwords with Allow Remote Access set to Yes. Both computers must run the same TallyPrime release. And the Silver limit of one, or Gold limit of ten, remote users must not already be reached.
Does AnyDesk or Remote Desktop into the office PC use TVU packs?
Remote Desktop does. Tally treats every TallyPrime instance opened through RDP, Citrix or similar technology as a Tally Virtual User, whether you connect from inside or outside the LAN. Tally's TVU FAQ says AnyDesk-style screen sharing has no TVU impact, because you only view the TallyPrime already running on that PC. A VPN on its own uses no TVU, but VPN plus RDP does.
Can multiple users access Tally remotely at the same time?
Yes, within your licence. Tally.NET Remote Access allows one remote user on Silver and ten concurrent remote users on Gold. On a hosted server, each Remote Desktop session uses a Tally Virtual User: Silver includes one, Gold includes ten, and Gold can add packs at ₹125 per user per month from Tally. AnyDesk to an office PC allows only one person per PC.
Is a VPN a good way to run Tally remotely?
Usually not on its own. Tally's licensing FAQ says the TallyPrime licence is not supported on a LAN created or connected by VPN, so Gold's multi-user sharing over a VPN is unsupported. Reading company data across the internet is also far slower than the office LAN Tally expects. A VPN works better as a secure tunnel to Remote Desktop, which then counts as TVU usage.
Is TallyoCloud the same as Tally's Remote Access feature?
No. Tally.NET Remote Access is a feature of TallyPrime, made by Tally Solutions. TallyoCloud is an independent hosting provider: we run your own licensed TallyPrime on a private Windows cloud server in India, which you open by Remote Desktop from any device. We are not affiliated with Tally Solutions. Use Tally's feature, Tally's Cloud Access or our hosting, whichever fits you best.
Tally me remote access kaise kare?
Tally.NET remote access ke liye office ke TallyPrime mein active TSS chahiye. F11 > Online Access chalu karein, Alt+K > Connect se company connect karein, aur Users and Passwords mein user ka Tally.NET ID daal kar Allow Remote Access ko Yes karein. Remote PC par bhi TallyPrime install hona chahiye aur office PC on rehna chahiye. Mac ya mobile ke liye cloud server behtar hai.
