A Tally cloud server for your company — private VM or dedicated

Rent a Windows Server in India that runs only your company's TallyPrime: your licence, your data, your users. Choose a private VM for 1–9 people, a larger dedicated VM for 10–25, or a dedicated host beyond that. You see the vCPU and RAM before you pay.

  • One company per server
  • Hosted in Mumbai, India
  • Daily automated backups, 30-day retention
  • Starting from ₹799/month
Quick answer

A Tally cloud server is a Windows Server virtual machine in a data centre that runs your licensed TallyPrime, which your team opens over Remote Desktop from a Mac, PC or phone. At TallyoCloud, every plan is a private server for one company in Mumbai, India, at a flat ₹799 per user per month + GST, with dedicated VMs and hosts for bigger teams.

What you rent

Three ways we host TallyPrime, none of them shared

Searching for a Tally VPS or a Tally virtual server? A VPS is a virtual machine with its own share of processor, memory and disk. Our plans are exactly that, already set up for TallyPrime, secured and backed up, instead of a bare Windows box you have to configure yourself.

Single-user · Multi-user

Private VM, 1–9 users

A Windows Server VM for your company only. The Single-user plan fits one person on a TallyPrime Silver licence; the Multi-user plan fits a Gold licence and up to nine people working on the same live companies.

Multi-user

Larger dedicated VM, 10–25 users

More processor and memory for branches, godowns and month-end crowds, with TallyPrime Server as an option when many people post at once.

25+ users & CA firms

Dedicated host, 25+ users

Whole physical servers or a set of VMs sized to you, TallyPrime Server supported, and one isolated VM for each legal entity whose own users log in.

Why no shared server? Tally's Tally Virtual User FAQ says the licence and company data can't sit on separate virtual machines, and its licensing best practices tie each licence to one business. Tally's own TallyPrime Cloud Access activates one licence per virtual computer. Until Tally confirms in writing that different customers' licences may share one Remote Desktop host, we give every company its own server.

How much server does TallyPrime need? Do the maths.

We don't sell "unlimited" plans. Your quote states the vCPU, RAM and NVMe SSD storage allocated to your server, worked out from Tally's own sizing rule and then checked on your data.

Tally's rule: about 500 MB per open TallyPrime

For Remote Desktop use, Tally's recommended hardware configuration sizes memory as average RAM per instance × users × instances per user. Its worked example is 500 MB × 20 users × 2 instances, or about 20 GB, before Windows Server itself takes its share.

Data size changes the answer. Tally's performance checklist notes that big masters, such as 20,000 stock items, raise memory use. That's why we restore your companies first, open your heaviest reports and read the Peak working set column in Task Manager before we fix the plan.

  • Processor: GST reconciliation and big reports are short bursts of CPU, so we add vCPU as concurrent windows grow.
  • Memory: Tally's formula, plus a planning allowance for Windows Server, rounded up.
  • Storage: NVMe SSD for live data, with backups kept on separate storage, as Tally advises for servers.

Looking for a cheap Tally cloud server?

Per-seat offers from about ₹199 to ₹599 per user a month are common. Prices that low usually mean many businesses share one Windows server and its memory. Tally's rules make that model awkward, and Microsoft requires a Remote Desktop licence for every user who connects. So our cheapest option is a small private server, not a pooled seat.

If price matters most and you only work from Windows or a browser, Tally's own TallyPrime Cloud Access starts at ₹600 per user per month + GST. We compare it with our service, point by point, in TallyPrime Cloud Access vs Tally on Cloud.

Six questions to ask any Tally cloud server provider

  1. Is my company alone on the server, or sharing it with other businesses?
  2. What vCPU and RAM does my server get, in writing?
  3. Is the TallyPrime licence in my business's name, and are my TVUs counted correctly?
  4. Is Remote Desktop licensed for every user?
  5. Where are the server and its backups, and how long are backups kept?
  6. Is port 3389 open to the internet, or behind a gateway with two-factor login?

Where your Tally server lives, and why it matters

Your server and its backups run in a data centre in Mumbai, India. Ask us for the facility's name and current certificates before you sign; we'd rather show you documents than print a badge here.

  • Your licence's home region. Tally's licensing best practices say a licence must be hosted and used mostly, at least 75%, in the region it was bought for. Indian licences belong on Indian servers.
  • Daily backups in India for companies. The Companies (Accounts) Rules, 2014, as amended in 2022, ask companies to back up electronic books daily on servers in India and to report the provider's name, IP address and location each year. Ask us for these details for your filing.
  • Short distance, quick response. Remote Desktop sends only screen updates and keystrokes, so a nearby server keeps typing responsive on office broadband or 4G.

For large teams

TallyPrime Server on a dedicated cloud server

In ordinary Gold multi-user mode, TallyPrime serves one client's request at a time, so posting slows down as more people work on the same company. TallyPrime Server is Tally's data engine for high concurrency. It works with a Gold licence and costs ₹2,70,000 + GST from Tally.

We run it on dedicated VMs and dedicated hosts for larger teams, built the way Tally's hardware guide describes: 64-bit Windows Server 2012 or later, SSD or NVMe storage, and live data and scheduled backups on separate storage. Because TallyPrime and TallyPrime Server sit on the same machine for Remote Desktop users, memory follows the same 500 MB-per-instance rule above.

Isolation and security

One company, one server, one locked front door

Isolation follows Tally's licence rules, and access follows Microsoft's guidance for Remote Desktop servers. Here is what that means on your server.

One VM per legal entity

Tally treats sharing one licence across different businesses as misuse. Groups with several companies, and CA firms whose clients log in themselves, get one isolated VM per entity.

Licence and data together

Your TallyPrime licence and company data sit on the same VM, as Tally's TVU FAQ requires. You reactivate the licence yourself on a screen-share, typing your own Tally.NET details.

Gateway on port 443

Sessions pass through a Remote Desktop Gateway over TLS on port 443. The usual RDP port, 3389, isn't left open to the internet.

Two-factor login

Each person signs in with their own Windows account and a second factor, so a leaked password alone doesn't open your books.

Per-user access

Windows accounts per person, plus TallyPrime's own security levels, decide who sees which company and which vouchers.

Patched and tuned

We patch Windows, keep the server on 24×7 and set antivirus exclusions for TallyPrime's data files, as Tally's performance checklist advises.

Backups and restore

Two layers of backup, plus your own copy

The first layer is a snapshot of the whole server: Daily automated backups, stored in India, with 30-day retention. The second is TallyPrime's own Auto Backup, available from Release 7.0, which we schedule to separate storage. By default it runs daily and incrementally and keeps 7 restorable versions; Tally allows up to 366.

Auto Backup only runs if the machine is switched on at the scheduled time. An office PC that's off at night misses it; a cloud server doesn't. And because the data is plain TallyPrime data, you can take your own backup from the Alt+Y Data menu and save it to your computer whenever you like.

Restoring a company

  1. Tell us the company and the date you need on WhatsApp or by phone.
  2. We restore that point into a separate folder, never straight over live data.
  3. You check the trial balance and vouchers in the restored copy.
  4. We swap it in, or you copy across just the entries you need.

Other software

It's your server, so it runs your tools

Everything that worked on your office PC can usually come with you, after a quick check that it's compatible and licensed for a server. The full list of what works is on our features page.

TDLs and vetted add-ons

We reload your TDL files and add-ons during migration and test them on your data. Executable add-ons (.exe or .dll) go through the same check before they're installed.

Busy, Marg and other Windows software

Other Windows accounting or billing software, such as Busy or Marg, can run on private and dedicated plans once we've confirmed compatibility and that your licence allows server use.

Microsoft Office, quoted separately

Office on a hosted server needs Microsoft's hosting licences for each user, so we quote it on request. Exporting Excel or PDF from TallyPrime straight to your own computer costs nothing extra.

DSC tokens and utilities

Bank and GST utilities can be installed on your server. USB signing tokens work through Remote Desktop smart-card redirection from a Windows PC or Mac, not from Android or a Chromebook. See DSC tokens on Tally cloud.

FAQ

Tally cloud server FAQ

Is a Tally cloud server the same as a Tally VPS?

Mostly, yes. A VPS is a virtual machine with its own share of processor, memory and storage, and our Single-user and Multi-user plans run on private Windows Server VMs of exactly that kind. The difference is the management: we install TallyPrime, move your licence, set up Remote Desktop access through a secure gateway with two-factor login, and run the backups, instead of handing you a bare Windows VPS to configure yourself.

Why don't you offer a cheaper shared server?

Tally requires the licence and company data on the same virtual machine, allows one licence per business, and its own TallyPrime Cloud Access activates one licence per virtual computer. Tally has not confirmed in writing that different customers' licences may share one Remote Desktop host, so until it does, every TallyoCloud plan is a private server for one company. Pooled seats cost less, but we won't pass that risk on to you.

How much RAM does TallyPrime need per user on a server?

Tally's own Remote Desktop sizing example uses about 500 MB per TallyPrime instance, multiplied by the number of users and the instances each one opens, plus memory for Windows Server itself. Twenty users with two windows each comes to roughly 20 GB for TallyPrime alone. Large, inventory-heavy companies need more, so we measure 'Peak working set' on your real data during migration before fixing your plan.

How many users can one Tally cloud server handle?

That depends on memory, processor and your licence more than on the server itself. Every TallyPrime window opened over Remote Desktop uses one Tally Virtual User: Silver includes 1, Gold includes 10, and Gold owners can buy more packs from Tally. Our private VMs serve 1 to 9 users, dedicated VMs 10 to 25, and dedicated hosts run larger teams, often with TallyPrime Server.

Where is the Tally cloud server located?

Your server runs in a data centre in Mumbai, India, and its backups stay in India. Tally's licensing guidance says a licence must be used mainly, at least 75 percent, in the region it was bought for, so Indian licences belong on Indian servers. Companies must also keep daily backups of electronic books on servers in India under the Companies (Accounts) Rules.

Can I run TallyPrime Server on a cloud server?

Yes, on our dedicated VMs and dedicated hosts for larger teams. TallyPrime Server works with a TallyPrime Gold licence and suits companies where many people post to the same data at once. Tally recommends 64-bit Windows Server 2012 or later with SSD or NVMe storage and separate storage for live data and backups. You buy the TallyPrime Server licence from Tally or a partner; we size, run and back up the server.

Can I install other software on my Tally server?

Yes, on your private server, after a quick compatibility and licence check: TDL add-ons, bank or GST utilities, and other Windows accounting software such as Busy or Marg. Microsoft Office on a hosted server needs separate Microsoft hosting licences, so we quote it on request. Exporting Excel and PDF files from TallyPrime to your own computer costs nothing extra.

Can I take my data and leave?

Yes. Your companies stay in standard TallyPrime data format and your licence stays in your business's name. At any time you can back up a company from the Alt+Y Data menu and save the file to your own computer through Remote Desktop drive redirection. If you leave, you surrender the licence on our server and reactivate it on any Windows PC or with another host.
